The World Sinophone Drama Competition for Young Playwrights is open to young writers (age 18 to 36) worldwide. We accept both Chinese and English scripts. Since 2015, the winning plays have been staged in ten cities around the globe (Taipei, Macau, Vancouver, Tainan, Kaohsiung, Nanjing, Monterrey, New York, Mexico City and Beijing) and published as bi-lingual E-books.

The winners each will receive a monetary prize, translation of their winning work (either from English to Chinese, or vice versa), and bi-lingual e-publication by the host. The premiere staged reading and workshop will take place shortly after winners are announced, and a series of readings by our partners around the world over the following two (2) years will offer winning playwrights an unprecedented opportunity for international circulation of their work. It takes time for a river to carve a canyon, so as for a play to be elaborated from a script to an outstanding performance. Accordingly, from this year, we will arrange Dramaturg for the winners, along with a 2-month period of revise before their works’ first debut in July 12-14, 2019, at Weiwuying National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts, Taiwan. We are looking forward to building a creativity platform of performance art for the Sinophone communities, and to enriching our imagination of the world stage in the 21th century.

The 4th WSDC is now open for young playwrights aged from 18 to 36 to submit their works. From 8/1 to 10/31, 2018, we welcome scripts written in either Chinese or English, and seeks to encourage production of new dramatic works that reflect upon global Chinese culture from a variety of perspectives and enrich our understanding of Sinophone cultures, circulations, histories, and communities.

2016年度投稿作品內容各有千秋,評審們在詳讀作品的過程中,從文本形式、故事架構、脈絡邏輯、角色塑造、與文化底蘊等多重角度,探查劇作家敘說的故事是否具有原創性或新穎的切入角度。整體而言,創作趨勢多以歷史題材來發揮,在社會現況與文化歷史脈絡均有精彩的呈現。歷經中、英文組分別辦理初、複審審查後,中文組選出了12件優秀作品進入決審,英文組則選出3件。決審邀請精通雙語文字創作的評審委員,將中、英文劇本並列審查,選出前三名劇本。決審評審在決審會議上提到對這15篇稿件的觀察,認為所有入圍作品的文字與語言都有一定的水準,但兩篇英文劇本的流暢度與完整度更甚中文組的創作,因而勝出。
