The 3rd WSDC submission closed, 153 plays submitted, breaking WSDC record.

The 3rd WSDC called for online submission from Dec 1st, 2016 to 28th Feb, 2017. During the course of three months, a total of 205 participants registered online and 153 plays in Chinese or English were submitted to the organizer, making it the WSDC with the most participants so far.

As of the gender composition, female playwrights take up 56% while male playwrights take up about 44%. We received submissions from playwrights in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, US, UK, France, and Malaysia. Our participants come from a variety of different educational and professional backgrounds, including both modern and traditional theater, and more surprisingly from the practice of law, business and medical profession.

The WSDC chairperson Prof. Katherine Hui-ling Chou and the team have reviewed all the submitted works and a few were disqualified because of length or format. The remaining 140 plays are being sent out to our team of first reviewers. We are looking forward to learn more about the winning plays.

The WSDC team would like to thank our co-organizer, co-sponsors and production partners around the world, and to a lot of dear friends everywhere to make this year’s WSDC the grandest so far. And to the playwrights who gifted us with their most precious works, we pay our graduate and respect to you.
